It’s 2011 and I will get shit done, that’s my new MO. So I’m clearing out my draft bucket and throwing down some ideas.
This really reminds me of a powerful quote which I boil down to “victory nor defeat” to keep it in the front of my mind, but here is the whole passage:
“It is not the critic who counts: not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again, because there is no effort without error or shortcoming, but who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, who spends himself for a worthy cause; who, at the best, knows, in the end, the triumph of high achievement, and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat.”

People are afraid to do things because they don’t want to stand out. When they stand out they can be made fun of and people don’t generally like that. They sit back and let others work, they BS their way through things and don’t have the guts to challenge themselves, potentially fail but stand up and be counted. No matter what you do there will be people calling you a moron, or loving you for it. So why not do whatever the fuck it is you want and just roll with it.
So easy to say, so hard to do that it is rarely achieved. Pick a goal, and move in that direction consciously every single day. I could overrun you with quotes supporting this but if you wonder why you are where you are, it’s because you have no path and no drive. You could be as strong as a freight train but you won’t get anywhere without tracks.
